Its Been Cold

Its been very cold here in England over the last couple of weeks. I think this is why when visting a yarn store in Broughton Astley last week I purchased some Patons Colour Works Aran in 00085 Art Deco to knit a scarf, I don't as a rule knit scarfs as I know I will get bored after knitting a few inches, but I just could not resist this yarn when I saw it, Its variagated in shades of blue and purples and really soft, I knew when I saw it that it would be perfect for the tipsy rib scarf I had queued in Ravelry.

So here is my progress on the scarf, I cast on on Monday 7th, as you can see it is not progressing very much. I wonder how long it will take me to finish it?

I have also cast on a pair of socks, I had one and a half balls of elle sock yarn in mulberry left over from a pair of socks I finished recently, I also had half a ball of elle sock yarn in a darker Pink so I am knitting a plain pair of socks using up the leftovers.

Secret Santa Swaps

I participated in the UK Sock Knitters Secret Santa Swap on ravelry. This is the lovely package I received from my swap partner Paula. I received The Yarn Yard Toddy Sock yarn in purple rain, a handmade sock bag, sweets and cashew nuts, a post it note block, sharpie pen and some beautiful hand knitted Cranford mitts.

I have finished my first pair of socks knitted in magic loop, I used a 2.25mm HiyaHiya 32" fixed circular needle. The yarn is rico design Superba Mexico.

I have just finished these socks. DragonFly socks knitted in Lornas Shepperd Sock Yarn, the colour is Green Envy.

Magic Loop Socks

I have knitted nearly all my socks on double pointed needles. I then found the HiyaHiya 9" circulars and have knitted a few pairs on them. I have attemted magic loop in the past but found it really hard and slow. For some reason I decided to give it another go, I had a HiyaHiya 32" 2.25mm circular needle and watched a couple of you tube videos and here I am knitting a sock magic loop and loving it, I don't have any ladders and its knitting up really fast. The yarn is Rico Design Superba Mexico 4ply, this is one of the few sock yarns I can buy from my local yarn store, although I love the nice indie yarns I also like to knit socks from the commercial yarns that I can machine wash and will last forever. I now need to get some more 32" fixed Circular needles in different sizes, I think I will get some knit pro nova metal, I have read they are great for magic loop becase of there flexible cables.

The above picture is Tidepool socks, I did a different cuff and heel, they are knitted in elle 4ply machine washable sock wool, the colour is called mulberry. These are a gift for my friends Birthday in December.

Plain vanilla socks knitted in The Painted Tiger, colourway Chocolate Cherry Sundae, even though this yarn is 4ply if feels alot thicker than other 4ply yarn's so I knitted these on 2.75mm needles. They are lovely and thick and will keep my feet nice and cozy over the winter months.

Fibre Flurry 2010

On Saturday 30th October I went to Fibre Flurry in Kings Norton Birmingham. I had a wonderful time, there was loads of lovely yarn and notions.
Here is what I bought, a sheep knitting bag and Lavender sachet from the Bothered Owl, a skein of sock yarn and a kit to knit your own lavender sachet bag from The Knitting Goddess, some mini stich markers and a russian doll tape measure from Atomin Knitting. For my friend Teressa I got a skein of sock yarn from Yarn to Knit and a Halloween special project bag from the bothered Owl.

Well I spent most of yesterday putting my sock yarn stash on ravelry, I have wanted to do this for ages. I now realise that I have enough sock yarn to knit 38 pairs of socks, this doesn't include the 3 pairs I have on the needles and yet I still feel I need more yarn. Iwould love to be able to get my hand on a skein of wollmeise and there is some others that are on my christmas list.

This is not a very good picture, here is some of the charity knitting I have been doing, all for very small premature babies, Tiny Angel Gowns, Angel Capes and tiny bonnets

One thing I wanted to mention in this post is my love for all things Hiya Hiya. I started off with 9" circular needles in sizes 2mm - 3.5mm, since then I have purchased 3 sets of the 6" stainless steel double pointed needles 2.25mm, 2.5mm and 2.75mm, A set of Bamboo 5" 2.5mm double pointed needles, the small interchangeable set, needle gauge and puppy snips. I love how lite the stainless steel needles are. These are all a joy to knit with.

I have just finished these this morning. topographical socks, knitted in Lorna's Shepherd Sock in Black Purl. These were easy to knit as it is only a 2 row pattern repeat. I changed the heal to a heel flap as I do not do short row heels.

It has been a whole year since I last blogged but the knitting has continued, I have added some pictures of some socks I have knitted over the last 12 months. I have knitted others but they have been given away as presents and I didn't take any pictures. I have also been doing some charity knitting for loving hands. I will add some pictures of that in my next post.

I have no idea what yarn I knitted these socks in but its a basic K3, P1 sock, this yarn is really soft though.

These socks are Menehune Cobblestone socks, Knited in Hazel Knits artisan sock yarn, the colour is Laguna.

Plain socks knitted inTrekking XXL colour 108.These will be for my friends husband. I love the colours in this yarn and it is lovely to knit with.

Another plain pair of socks knitted with TY-DY Socks in colorway 1574 Magenta Moss. Although this yarn is very soft and nice to knit with I did not like the way the colors in the yarn came through, I probably should have tried to match them and they would have looked better.

Ampersand Socks knitted in Blue Moon Fibre Arts Socks that Rock - Medium Weight .

The colorway is Highway 30. The yarn knitted up beautifully, the pattern was a pleasure to knit, also I had loads of yarn left when I had finished them.

Last night I knitted these two cloths, the yarn is I Love this Cotton, the color is 205 Too Pink Print, and the pattern is Grandmother's favorite.

This Yarn is unbelievably soft. I love them so much I don't want to use them, I think there is enough yarn left on the ball to knit a 3rd cloth.

Charity Knitting

I have Joined the Charity Knitting group Loving Hands, this picture shows some of the things I have been knitting, Hats, Mittens, Booties and a hand glove puppet that needs a face and scarf. I have also knitted three dog blankets for the animal Shelter. I am curently working on matching sets of baby hat's, mittens and booties for new mothers. I have also been picking up baby items in the sale such as baby vests, socks and little outfits to make up a set to give to new mothers in Algeria who otherwise would have nothing.

I finished these socks ages ago but never blogged about them. The pattern is called Feather Pluckin. I am really pleased with them.

Too many Socks?

Ladder Socks knitted in Panda Wool, colorway Violets, this yarn is 46% Bamboo, 43% Wool, 11% Nylon. I was surprised by how soft and Silky this yarn is, I loved knitting with it and would definitely use it again.

I have knitted alot of pairs of socks since learning how to knit them about 4 years ago. I have so many pairs that I have forgotten about alot of them until they turn up in a draw and that is not counting the ones I have knitted for swaps or for presents, so the question is when do you say I own too many pairs of hand knit socks ?

To use up leftover sock yarn I have made some mobile phone socks for charity. The pattern is my own based on the size of my mobile phone, I varied the length to accomidate different size phones. I cast on 40 sts and did a K2, P2 until I decided it was the length I wanted it to be and Kitchener Stitched it at the bottom.

It is very warm here in England at the moment, we are supposed to be having a mini heat wave this week.

Ravelry Day 2009

I had a wonderful time at Ravelry day in Coventry despite the fact that it rained non stop all day. I gently encouraged my Friend Sarah to stand in the rain so I could take a picture of her next to the Alpacas who braved the wet weather to have there pictures taken by many knitters. They are so cute, I could have taken one home easily.

Alot of the stalls were outside, I really admire all the stall holders who despite being damp and cold were wonderful, helpful and remained smiling all day. There were lots of people around with bags full of yarn and goodies so I hope they all did well on the day. I didn't buy much, just a ravelry sheep sock knitting bag, a cat charm and a birthday card with sheep on it. I will hopefully have more money to spend at IKnit day in September.

I have four pairs of socks on the go at the moment, I will post some pictures next week when hopefully a couple of pairs will be finished.

Summer, Knitting and Ravelry Day 2009

I have finished The Blueberry Waffle Socks, I am really pleased how they have turned out. I am about to start another pair of socks using Panda Wool, I have had this yarn for a while so I will see how it knits.

The Weather has been lovely over the past week, I have been spending lots of time knitting in the garden under the shade of the Patio Umbrella, My skin hates the sun.

My friend Sarah and I are off to Ravelry Day on saturday, I am really looking forward to it. At last a knitting event that is just down the road from me, I can hardly wait.

I managed to knit two pairs of everdays socks out of one ball of Opal sock yarn. The first pair is plain vanilla. The second pair is Carolina, Last Queen of Naples Pattern found on Ravelry.

Malabrigo Yarn Love

I treated my self to some new sock yarn from Socktopus. The two skeins on the left are Shelfridge Farm Soft Touch Ultra. The colours are a mixture of brown, orange and grey. This was not what I expected as my computer screen showed the colours up differently but I am sure it will look fine when it is knitted up. The Skein on the right is Malabrigo Sock yarn in Eggplant a sort of charcoal grey colour with hints of purple in it. I have been wanting to get some Malabrigo sock yarn for a while now, the texture of it is lovely, really silky soft. I love it and will definetly be buying some more

I purchased some Malabrigo Silky Merino DK from www.purepurl.co.uk. I was so pleased when this arrived, the colours are amazing and the yarn feels so silkyand looks really shiny. It is 51% Silk, 49% Merino Wool. I think Malabrigo is my favourite yarn at the moment.

I purchased this skein of Hazel Knits artisan sock yarn in Laguna from Socktopus with a £15.00 voucher I received for the Socktopus secret santa sock swap. This is my new Very Large Tote Bag I designed and had made for me at my local craft Centre. It has two large outside pockets and numerouse pockets inside for all my junk. I don't like carrying two seperate bags, this bag allows me to carry all my stuff as well as my current sock knitting.

I haven't done alot of knitting over the past month but I did finish the two pairs of Fetching mittens and the Bow Tie scarf that were for Christmas presents as well as a pair of fetching mittens for myself. I am currently working on the Le' Slouch beret to match the mittens

I have also knitted and felted a accessories pouch for the knitting book Weekend Knitting. I just need to put a zip in it now.

Socktopus Secret Santa Swap Socks Finished

The above picture is of the Socktopus secret santa swap socks that I have recently finished, it is not a very good picture and they still need to be washed and blocked properly, the pattern is spring forward that I found on Knitty.com. The yarn is Lotus Yarns in Hitchcock Starlet, it has little silver strands in it.

These are the mystery socks that I finished a while ago, knitted in colinette Jitterbug.

Fetching Fingerless gloves from Knitty.com, I am knitting two pairs, one for me and one pair for a christmas present and also a neck warmer from a pattern that some one gave to me. I am using Debbie Bliss Rialto Aran.

I finished the Mystery socks that I started in August. The socks are Knitted in Collinette Jitterbug. Sorry this picture is actually of the Socktopus secret santa swap sock, not the Mystery socks.

I have also finished these fingerless mittens, they are knitted in Noro silk garden.

Last night I finished the Socktopus SOSESASWA Socks, I am really pleased with the end result, I will take a picture of them tommorrow as it is too dark now.

I am currently knitting a couple of pairs of Fetching fingerless gloves in Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran, they are for Christmas presents. I will take a picture of them tommorow also.

I knit London Day 2008

Here I am shopping at I knit London Day 2008, It was an awful day as it had been raining heavily for two days, I also had to drive us all to Northampton as alot of the lines were closed and that was the closest we could get a train to London from. We got the Train to Euston and then a tube to Victoria. We then walked to the Royal Horticultural centre where the show was being held. There was lots of stands full of lovely Yarn, including Socktopus, woolly workshop, The Natural Dye Studio, Lana Pura, Knitwitches Yarns, Fyberspates but to name a few. There was plenty of yarns to fondle. It wasn't as big as I expected it to be, but there was still plenty there. I didn't see the Yarn Harlot though.

Here is some of the things I bought. Two mini balls of Opal sock yarn for knitting mini socks or mini jumpers etc, Another mini ball of yarn and pattern kit called xs-firestarter from http://www.yarnissima.com/ for making some mini socks, really cute set, Easy Knits BFL 100% Blue Faced Leicester in Chocolate Lime, Knitwitches Superwash Sock Yarn in Lilac Haze, Keyring of a sheep wearing some knitted dungarees, I also bought a lovely Lesportsac case, it has three zipped compartments, I love it. I bought some other things but they are a present for Pam and I know she reads my blogg.

I could not resist buying one of these Karatstix sock shaped needles gauges from Socktopus.

On the knitting front I have finished my Skein Queen Plushness Socks, I love how they have turned out, I have already worn them and they are so warm and comfy. I have started the other Mystery sock and have cast on for another sock as well, pictures in next post.

I have been knitting some mini socks for my local Yarn shop for display purposes, I am really into knitting mini things at the moment, I also knitted a mini cable hat and some mini mittens but forgot to take pictures before I took them to the shop. Next is a mini Jumper.

Home made Swift and skein queen Socks

I changed my mind on the pattern I was originally knitting this yarn in as I didn't think it looked right. I decided to try something else, the pattern on the leg is a simple k 2 rows and K1, P1 for one row, repeat till the leg is as long as you want it to be, I have knitted a plain stockinette stitch foot. I am really pleased with this pattern and think it shows up the wonderful colours in the yarn really well. The Yarn is skein Queen Plushness in Violet Pumkin that Margaret gilraen's knits sent me in my Monkey Sock package last year.

Make your own swift, I am lucky enough to have a Husband who can pretty much make and do everything. Today he went into the garage and with bits he had kicking around he made me this, I have tried it out and it works perfectly, and it took him less than an hour. I have been promised a less crude one when he has more time, but I don't care this one works and it has saved him from holding and untangling skeins of yarn so we are both happy.

Mystery Sock and new Yarn

I have finished the first sock for the Sockamaniac Sockalong mystery socks. I have used Colinette Jittterbug in a semi solid Cherry colour. I have knitted the sock on 2.75mm needles. I will start the second sock later today

I was feeling seriously broody because I had not purchased any yarn for a while so I placed an order on Monday with Socktopus. I received it today, I ordered Pagewood Farm Yukon in Really Red which is 70% Merino, 20% Bamboo and 10% Nylon, I already have a lacy pattern in mind for this yarn. I also could not resist buying one of the new socktopus knit bits bags they have had in. I received a free sample of wool wash also.

Socktopus will be having some Swifts in at the end of August and I intend to buy one, it will make winding my yarn onto the ball winder alot easier.

Tidal Wave Sock's

At last I have finished the Tidal Wave Socks, they are knitted in Tofutsies yarn on 2.25mm needles, I am pleased with the end result but wouldn't knit with this yarn again, a bit too fine and flimsy for me.

I am doing another sockalong at sockamaniac sockalong, it is a mystery sock, you are only given the pattern so that you have to choose your own yarn and needle size, cuff, heel and toe, the pattern is really nice. I am really enjoying knitting them. Will post more about them at the weekend.

Swaps, Gifts & Knitting

First is a the wonderful gift I received form my upstream Monkey swap pal Margaret of gilraen's knits , Margaret sent me some wonderfully soft hand knitted socks, a skein of The Yarn Yard fine sock yarn which is 75% Wool & 25% Bamboo and the cutest chicken stitch marker :) Margaret was also my Monkey swap pal from last year, where she sent me my Monkey swap Package.

I have been meaning to post about the wonderful Monkey Swap package that I received this year from my friend Pam Yarn Goddess . Pam sent me the most wonderful package full of yarn, the cutest sock knitting bag and sock knitting tote bag, and loads of other goodies. My Monkey socks are knitted in Posh Yarn in all of my favourite colours.

Currently on the needles are these socks knitted in Tofutsies yarn, the pattern is called Tidal Wave. I started these socks ages ago but I was not enjoying knitting them, but I found them recently and decided to finish them, they are nearly finished now.

I am also knitting another pair of socks in the wonderful Skein queen Plushness in Violet Pumkin that my Margaret sent me in my Monkey Sock package last year. This yarn is a dream to knit with, so soft with a silky feeling to it. I am knitting a pattern that I pulled out of a magazine but for some reason doesn't have a name, the cuff is knitted on 2.75mm needles in a K 3, P 4 rib. For the leg you change to 3.25mm needles, the pattern for the leg is stripes of moss stitch and stocking stitch. I am not sure yet wether I like it or not but I will do a bit more and see.

I am currently trying to finish a pair of socks that I started ages ago. They are knitted in Tofutsies yarn, the pattern is called Tidal Wave. I was not enjoying knitting with this yarn and found the pattern hard going, they seem to be taking ages to knit as they are knitted on 2.25mm needles

The above photo is of two mini socks that I knitted for my local yarn shop, they are knitted in elle sock wool that my LYS has started to stock, it was actually very nice to knit with, the little socks will be hung next to the yarn in the shop.

Not a very good picture but the Apple Harvest Socks in Apple Laines, Apple Pie sock yarn in Arizona are finished, the pattern runs up the back of the sock which you cannot see very well in the photo.

Since I started to knit socks I have not knitted anything else, but while I was in my local yarn shop I saw a Pattern for a waistcoat that I really liked. It is a sirdar pattern, it is knitted in Sirdar Click on 7mm needles so it should be quite a quick to knit. I will post pictures in my next post as there isn't much to show at the moment.

Apple Harvest Socks and Yarn

The Apple Harvest Socks in Apple Laines, Apple Pie sock yarn in Arizona are coming along really well, I like that the pattern goes down the back of the sock and that they also have a patterned heel

I purchased the Funky Monkey sock pattern from Blue Moon Fibre Arts that I read about on the Yarn Harlot's blogg, I think it will be really fun to knit.

I purchased this yarn from The Loopy ewe, it is Scarlet Fleece in Raisin Berry, I love the colours.

The above yarn is Posh Yarn Laura, it is 80% merino and 20% cashmere, the colour is called Carnival, this yarn is really soft, I am really pleased with it.

I have completed the Eleanor socks and they are presently on there way to a friend for her Birthday, I hope she likes them.

I have been knitting a couple of mini socks out of some leftover sock yarn. Tonight I will be casting on the Apple Harvest Socks in Apple Laines, Apple Pie sock yarn in Arizona.

The above picture is a pair of no purl Monkey socks with a plain knitted foot, knitted in Regia, I am knitting them for a friend who asked me to knit her a pair of socks, she chose this wool as she loves all the colours in it.

Above is another finished pair of socks, I started these after I had finished my Monkey Sock swap socks, they knitted up so quickly, I was amazed at how quickly I knitted them. They are knitted in Cherry Tree Hill Luxury Merino. The pattern is no purl Monkeys that I discovered from my swap pal Gilraen, you replace the purl stitches with knit stitches. I knitted the foot in plain stockinette stitch though. These are a present for a friend.

Here is my latest yarn's that I purchased from Socktopus. I placed my order Thursday evening and it was posted out friday, I received it this morning (saturday), fantastic. The one on the left is Dream in color smooshy in Ruby River, I have been wanting to try this yarn for a while and I wasn't dissapointed when it arrived, it really is smooshy. The one one the right is Natural Dye studio BFL Dazzle in Flame.

Here is what is said about it.

"Dazzle is made from pedigree British Blue Faced Leicester sheep, a sheep unique to the British Isles. It feels good to support the fabulous sheep we have here in the UK. It is a gorgeously soft wool, with an amazing sheen. I am really pleased with this yarn also, I will be using this yarn to knit a pair of socks for a dear friend, I just haven't decided on a pattern yet. Any ideas ?

The yarns were beautilfully wrapped in pink socktopus tissue paper and I received a free socktopus stitch marker and wool wash sample, they also emailed me to let me know my order had been sent, i was really pleased with my first experience with this company.

I have already started another pair of socks for another friend who asked me if I would knit a pair for her, pictures to come soon.

Finished Socks

The above socks were knitted in a plain stockinette stitch with a knit two purl two long cuff, I knitted them with Regia 4ply Jacquard color from my stash.

The finished Simple Trekking Socks knitted in Sirdar town and country, again yarn used from my stash.

This pair of socks I have recently finished for a friend they are knitted in plymouth sockatta that was gifted to me from last years Monkey Sock 3 Swap pal Margaret the pattern is "springy" Socks
They knitted up really quickly, I am really pleased with the result.

I am currently working on my Monkey Sock Four swap socks, I am now on the foot of the first Sock, I am using Cherry Tree Hill Merino, I am loving how they are looking. I will post a picture next time.

Socks and Notions

The above picture is my current sock project, after the Simple Trekking Socks that I have finished I wanted to do a plain pair, The pattern is just basically a long knit two purl two cuff and the rest of the sock is plain stockinette stitch. I am using some Regia 4ply Jacquard color from my stash, this works great on plain knitted socks. The Green Stitch Keeper is from Webofwool. I have two and I love them.

As well as sock yarn I love buying knitting notions, the above picture is some of my favourite items that are kept in the Clover Frog Critter case, I love the mini KA Bamboo crochet hook that I use for picking up dropped stitches and the Sheep tape measure which is from purlescence. The sock stitch markers are from Webofwool. I added the lobster claws to them as I prefer stitch markers you clip onto the sock. The mini cable needles are Susan Bates, the row counter is by Clover, the monkey stitch marker was a gift in a swap, I have two of them and the other stitch markers I made myself.

This is a set I made up with things I need for knitting on the go, I keep this in my normal day bag (which is a huge brown leather bag) along with my current sock project. I have duplicates of some of my notions such as the mini crochet hook and folding scissors.

These are all of the notions that live in the Clover Critter, this sits on my coffee table and I take it to my local knitting group Its a bit bulky for carrying around day to day. The sheep tape measure and note book were presents I received at Christmas. I love sheep and sock themed items.

All I need now to make up my sock knitting kit is some wooden or nice plastic sock blockers unfortunatly I have only found one pair on a UK online shop but I don't like them, they are blue plastic and in my opinion not worth what they are asking for them. I might have to get a pair from the Loopy ewe.

I am really excited to report that Pam the Yarn Goddess is opening her new online shop on the 7th February, I have been so looking forward to this, all the Yarn and Notions pam will be selling in her shop will be from independent sellers. Pam's shop is called "Yarny Goodness" and believe me this will be the case. Pam showed us the new logo a few days ago and its wonderful, Pam will be putting up the url to her shop sometime in the next few days. It would be great if anyone reading my blogg would take a look when the shop opens and support Pam in this new venture, she is a wonderful lady who has always been there for me when I have needed help and advice. Her shop is all about (in Pam's words) - "helping indies and carrying unique items", "It's also given me the opportunity to give some indies more exposure to the world at large".

On the Knitting front I am on the second sock of the Simple Trekking Socks I found the pattern on mimknits.

Some New Sock Yarn

The above picture is of Apple Laine Apple Pie Sock Yarn in Arizona, I purchased this yarn to knit the Apple Harvest Sock pattern I found on Knitting Pattern Central. I purchased this off Loopyewe

The Skein on the left is GYPSYKNITS in Circus, the colurs are so pretty, I purchased this from Loopyewe. The skein on the right is from My Small Wonders on etsy, the colour is called parrot.

The above two pictures are of Skeins of Araucania, the blue one is Ranco Solid sock yarn and the Green one is Ranco Multi, the labels do not say the colour names. They cost me £7.99 a skein from my local yarn shop who have now started to stock some sock yarn.

These were all purchased before Christmas, I haven't purchased any yarn recently because I am waiting for Pam the Yarn Goddess to open her knew online shop at the end of the month, I am so excited about it, I know the yarn she will be selling will be fantastic.

Swaps and my cat.

The above three pictures are of a wonderful swap package I received, it was a sock yarn swap that I did at swap-bot, it was for some sock yarn to knit a pair of socks and a few goodies but as you can see my swap pal went all out and sent me loads of stuff I was quite overwhelmed. The yarn she sent me was lovely, two skeins of J. Knits in Artists Choice 123 and two Balls of Cherry Tree Hill in colours 369 and 382, these are a much welcome addition to my sock yarn collection, I love everything she sent me.

As for two other swaps I was in, Harvest Sock Swap and Intenational scarf exchange, neither of my parcels have turned up even though I was told by both my swap partners that they were sent out at the beginning of December, not that I will let that put me off doing other swaps as I love doing them.

I am currently doing the Sockamaniac Sock Knitters Pedicure sock yarn swap, you send a pattern enough sock yarn to knit it and a few pedicure goodies,you only have one partner in this swap and we have been in contact, all will be well with this swap.

As my blogg is called "Knitting and my cat" here is a picture of my cat Poppy trying to sqeeze herself into a shoe box, as you can see she is a big cat, she didn't stay in there for long.

As for knitting I knitted two lovely pairs of 6 - 9 month socks and matching mittens for two friends babies for christmas but forgot to take pictures. I am currently working on the Side Tied Coat in Cashmerino astrakhan from the Debbie Bliss Simply Soft Book. I knitted the back ages ago then found sock knitting and never got back to it so I decided after christmas I would finish it, one side and two sleeves to go.

Scarf, Socks and Yarn.

I have just finished this scarf for my friend for christmas. It is knitted in Patons Glitz chic shimmer Aran, I have had this yarn forever so I was pleased to finally use it. I am really pleased with it, but it will need blocking and I don't know how to block ?

Here is a picture of two pairs of socks I have recently finished. The blue pair on the left are knitted in Sirdar Town and Country Sock yarn. The pair on the right are knitted in Araucania Ranco Multy Sock Yarn. This is the yarn my local yarn store is now selling. It was a bit confusing when I started to knit them as the tag on the skein said to use needle size 3.25mm, I have knit these on 2.75mm and they have still turned out big.

This picture is some lovely sock yarn that my monkey sock pal Kim got for me at Rhinebeck. I was over the moon at her generosity. The Multi coloured skein on the left is Aussi sock yarn named Fiesta, the blue skein on the right is Colinette Jitterbug named Parrot, Kim also included some souvenirs from her home town as I love to see and hear about where people live. its been a while

I haven't been able to post for a while. I injured my hip a few weeks ago which effected my back so I was laid up for a while, then the hard drive went in my laptop, I am now using my husbands laptop which he only uses when on he's on site, but I haven't got all my links and emails so its taken me a while to get sorted. I won't be doing photo's until I get my laptop back.

On the swap front I have finished and mailed off both my packages for the International scarf exchange and the harvest sock swap. My swap pal has received her scarf and goodies for the ISE, still waiting for my harvest sock swap pal to let me know when she receives her package.

On the yarn front I have joined dk knits sock club on etsy, I love her yarn's and the sock club was a really good price compared to others I have looked at, I have received the first skein and I love it.

I am also really pleased to say that my LYS is now stocking skeins of sock yarn and I am teaching four people in our knitting group to knit socks and they are getting as hooked as I am, other people in our knitting group are also starting to show interest, I am so pleased at last I won't be the only sock knitter in our group. They are amazed at how easy it is and how addictive, hopefully the bug will spread.

Received parcel last week from Loopy Ewe, I ordered a skein of Gypsy Knits in GK Circus. This is what was written about it.

"Kathy has hand dyed this yarn in small batches and you will love it. She calls this BFL Superwash Fingering Wool the "poor knitter's cashmere"! This yarn is milled in the UK from long staple BFL fleece producing a strong, soft yarn. Because of the long staple it is especially durable for socks yet it is as soft as cashmere."

I am really pleased with it and can't wait to see it knitted up.

I also ordered the little sock note book, I couldn't resist it.

I also received some needle inventory cards and some sock yarn samples.

On the knitting front I have finished the scarf for the ISE and am currently packing it up to post probably tommorow.

I am on the foot part of the sock for the harvest sock swap and hope to have that finished for the weekend. I now need another sock swap, does anyone know of one thats about to start ?

The first picture is of the monkey pet that my monkey pal margaret sent me, he needs a hair cut i think.
Due to postal strikes I have not received any mail or parcels for over a week but yesterday I received two parcels the first is from SpinBlessing, from left - Mini bamboo crochet hook for picking up dropped stitches when knitting socks. some cute heart shapped stitch markers, and some bamboo knitting marking pins, I love knitting accessories. I first saw the little crochet hook on the "Yarn Goddess" blog and just had to have one and searched and searched until I found one, it was very hard to find.

This is the gift I won on DK Knits at etsy, the competition was name the skein, I was so pleased when I was one of the winners as I never win anything usually. Theres a small handmade knitting bag with lots of pockets inside, i really love it, its perfect for carrying my sock knitting in. There is also two skeins of Bulky bliss yarn 85%wool, 15%alpaca, its so soft, i can't wait to start knitting a scarf in it.

Doing my bit for Charity

Hi, I haven't posted for a few days as i have been busy knitting.

As its coming up to national knitting week our knitting group decided to knit premature baby clothes for our local hospital. My contribution was booties, mittens and hats as I'm not keen on knitting cardigans. I wanted to make sure I didn't turn up tonight with nothing, so I have been knitting like mad for the last couple of days.

Also I had agreed to knit mini hats with pom poms on for the "innocent smoothie the big knit", those are at the top of the picture.

I will be knitting these for the next week, its a good way to use up all the leftover bits of yarn.

I am also still working on the scarf for the international scarf exchange, I am about halfway through that and also my sock for the harvest sock swap is nearly done.

The weather was awful today, i got up at 6.45am after another bad night made a cup of tea, put the fire on and settled down to do some knitting, the rain was hammering down, I'm lucky that my job is very flexible as I just could not face leaving the house, so had a nice day knitting in front of the fire, bliss.

Here is a picture of the sock I am working on, its knitted in Sirdar Town & Country, wool rich 4ply sock yarn its 75% Wool, 25% Nylon, I decided to try to use it up seems I have so much of it, actually its turning out quite nice, they will look good with jeans and cloggs, its only a simple top down sock pattern. The wool is now discontinued.

Next to it is my little sock bag the I got from katiefleck at etsy, I also have a double pointed needle case and circular needle case to match, I love the material.

Also I am knitting a scarf for the international scarf exchange 5, its turning out really well, I am knitting it in fishermans rib, for about the first year when I first started knitting all I knitted was scarfs so I have plenty of experience.

I only started knitting socks in June and am now hooked. I decided to have a look at the sock yarns I own. Not knowing anyone else who knits socks I have made some bad decisions on the sock yarns I have bought, I did not know until recently about all the lovely hand dyed skeins that are available at places like etsy and on ebay. I have four balls of Opal yarn 2x 4ply and 2 x DK, I do not like any of them, I have 6 balls of st ives the only sock yarn the small knitting shop in my town carries, I also have 6 balls of Sirdar town and country this was the only yarn the knitting shop at the craft sanctuary near my home sells. None of these I like anymore. I like the balls of Regia cotton, fortissima cotton and sockotta. I also love the Angels and Elephants hand dyed shetland wool I purchased off ebay and the Skein queen which is 8o% lambswool and 10% cashmere which My monkey sock swap pal Margaret got for me alomg with the sockotta. I have just purchased a skein of yarn from dkKnits on etsy and a skein from Loopy ewe, but I get confused with all the different Sock yarns about, I think i need some advice.

Harvest Sock Swap

Well now my monkey sock swap is finished and on its way too my swappee i can concetrate on my two other swaps. The first is the harvest sock swap, in this swap you knit one sock, you then send the knitted sock, pattern, some goodies and enough yarn for your pal to knit the other sock. I have chose the pattern and the yarn and have nearly finished knitting the cuff but I'm not sure wether I like it or not, i think the variagated yarn might be a bit dark for the pattern. I am considering starting another sock in the same yarn but a different pattern and then decide. I have also chosen the theme for my goodies and bought a few bits, so far so good.

My Monkey socks are finished, washed and blocked, well pulled into shape and left flat to dry as I don't have any sock blockers and haven't found any anywhere that are a reasonable price and are available in the UK, but they look great and as this is only the second pair of socks I have knitted I am thrilled that I didn't have too much trouble knitting them, I'm sure there will be a couple of mistakes somewhere, but as long as my Pal is happy I'm happy. I am sure she will love all the goodies I have for her.

Modular Italian Charm Bracelet

I bought myself one of these stainless steel base bracelets yesterday, Ive wanted one for a while, the bracelet is plain links to start with, you then buy the pictured or lettered links and replace a plain link. I managed to find a couple of knitting themed links and one with a sheep on at ebay so I was really pleased. The rest of the links I will wait and let family and friends buy the proper links as gifts for me so they will mean something when I look at them, they cost about £15 for the real links, some come with gold on them also.

Everywhere I go at the moment I see monkey things that I can't resist buying, I got some great bits at paperchase in borders, also in claires accessories and tesco's everything i have bought my pal I have also bought myself. I have also included a few knitting accessories in my package for my pal, I love knitting accessories I have lots of things, wish I lived in the USA or Canada as there is more cool things available over there, the UK is very limited, I buy most of my knitting stuff online, but not everyone delivers to the uk such as knit picks, they have some really cool stuff. The favourite gadgets I have managed to get my hands on recently are the stitchkeepers by rollie, they are used to hold double pointed needles together whilst knitting a sock, they are like large point protectors attached with a piece of elastic. These are great for carrying double pointed needles especially if you use the bamboo ones that are fragile.

Hi The wool arrived today that I ordered for my Monkey swap pal, i ordered to lovely hand dyed british shetland 100% wool, it is better than it looked on the site, I am really pleased with it, I'm sure my Pal will love it, I also have all her goodies, as this is my first swap I have gone a bit overboard, I have managed to find lots of monkey things to send as well as a few other knitting bits that I hope she will like, everyone deserves being spoiled in my opinion, I have nearly finished the first sock so will hopefully start the secondsock this weekend as its a bank holiday.

Knitting at starbucks

I met a couple of friends and we sat in the window at our newly opened starbucks knitting. I live in a small town in the UK where you never see anyone knitting, so we thought we might get a few looks but nobody seemed surprised or anything so we are going to meet every friday now as well as go to our tuesday night knitting group. My Monkey socks are coming along really well nearly finished one now, I have really enjoyed doing the lace pattern.

I am still working on the Monkey socks, have just about finished the leg and am about to turn the heel, I only had to rip them back once due to a small mistake, and as this is only my second pair of socks I am really pleased with myself.

Hi, well im definetly getting into posting on my blog now, took a while. I am hoping to start to post some pictures soon once i have learnt how to. Well i have made a start on the monkey socks, so far so good, I can't tell you how much i enjoy knitting socks, i find it so satisfying, not like when i was trying to knit garments, i just got fed up after i'd done one piece of it. I like to do things that give me instant gratification.

I am still sock knitting, have finished my first pair of socks and am practising on a more complex pattern at the moment. I must say that sock knitting is very addictive, i wish i knew someone else who knits socks for advice but unfortunatly although i go to a local knitting group i am the only sock knitter, but have found a couple of sock knitting groups on line so i don't feel quite so isolated now, and am hoping to participate in a sock swap so that should be fun.

Well its been a while since i posted anything in my new blogg, i was on holiday for a couple of weeks and then I was busy finishing off some of my knitting. I have recently started knitting socks both on 5 double pointed needles and one long circular needle and I am hooked on sock knitting now so I am trying to get all of my other knitting out of the way so i can concentrate on doing my socks.
